And we all know how long ago those years seem to be. I instantly fell in love with the COSRX Brand and they didn't sponsor this post (although #bekenemen), this is my honest and personal experience. Although, I may be able to add a little into Noah's college fund in case you would make a purchase through the links at no cost to you. <div><br /></div><div>Just like a lot of things, I was unable to keep the routine when COVID-19 hit. And now that it's been a year and more, it's time to go back to taking care of God's gifts and one of them is my skin and face. So, I hope you would join me in this journey as I restart my skin care journey once more.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_HRm7TUZGYc/YTyh4MVdpBI/AAAAAAAA5_M/D2KBSi15QMkxVpEiBVQP3j8N_o2PXr4owCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG20210829173725-01%255B1%255D.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_HRm7TUZGYc/YTyh4MVdpBI/AAAAAAAA5_M/D2KBSi15QMkxVpEiBVQP3j8N_o2PXr4owCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG20210829173725-01%255B1%255D.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>As I mentioned, COSRX is a brand I have trusted long ago or at least when I started to follow the Korean Skin Care Routine, so, it's just apt that I would go back to using their products. Actually, I didn't really stop. I just abandoned the whole 10-step routine but was at the very least washing my face. And yes, it's with the most popular product of COSRX, the <a href="https://invol.co/cl63i13" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">COSRX Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser</a>. </div><div><br /></div><div>Just a disclaimer, I'm not a dermatologist and I think I have oily-combination skin, because my T-Zone gets to be really oily while the cheeks area closer to my jaw line gets to be really dry and rough. What may work with me may not necessarily work with you and it's really best to seek professional advice in case you experience irritations or anything outside the ordinary. </div><div><br /></div><div>With that out of the way, the first step in my skin care routine is to wash your face. This step at the least I tried to maintain ever since. I'm not sure if I actually tried other Korean facial cleanser, but of course this is not the only one I've used in my entire existence. I also remember wanting to try other facial cleansers from Korea, but I don't remember actually being able to do so because I was really satisfied with the <a href="https://invol.co/cl63i13" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">COSRX Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser</a>. I'm not sure if I would try now, maybe if it's sponsored *wink*.</div><div><br /></div><div>Before I go into the specifics of why I adore this product, just some pointers in washing your face that I think really helped a lot in cleaning my face. This is not required for the COSRX cleanser to be effective, but I just find these extra steps really helpful. HACK ALERT!</div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;">1. Wash Your Face for 60 Seconds</h4><div>I have learned this through watching YouTube videos on Skin Care Routines, unfortunately, I no longer remember from which channel. I seldom watch anymore, but maybe I will again to be updated and if there's a new product I wanted to know how to use. </div><div><br /></div><div>So, in washing your face, after you lather the product in your hands, you gently scrub your face for a whole minute. I'm a little OCD and I would really actually count the seconds while I'm cleaning my face. What I would do is spend the first 30 seconds in the most problematic area and the rest of the minute would be for the rest of my face and add a couple more seconds for the neck. I can't afford having a timer or manage to have my phone get wet, so, I just count. It's just sixty seconds anyway. </div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;">2. Rinse Your Face 50 Times</h4><div>This one I got from the Philippine's queen of talk, Ms. Kris Aquino. Okay, fifty looks daunting, but what she meant here is the number of times you splash your face with clean running water. So, again, counting. I don't rub my face anymore at this stage, I just splash just like how they do in TVCs 50 times with clean running water. </div><div><br /></div><div>Ms. Kris actually refers to it as 100 times because it's 50 in the morning and 50 at night. Just look at her skin, I will never doubt that. </div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;">3. Pat Dry with Clean Towels</h4><div>This may not be something new. So, again, no rubbing, just pat your face dry. I mentioned I have a little OCD, so, I wanted to make sure that the towel I use on my face is really clean and I would have doubts unless I know it just came out of the dryer. So, to calm myself, I used kitchen towels because it fits my face and it doesn't break from all the water after those 50 splashes. Sorry, trees, I tried to use the recycled ones. Although, now I trust my towels a little bit more.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Back to the..</div><h2 style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://invol.co/cl63i13" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">COSRX Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser</a></h2><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://invol.co/cl63i13" rel="nofollow" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GfX-A1tUqSM/YTywmuMgcLI/AAAAAAAA5_Y/HrgdINDyV70W8bzBFp-UGGY6ix5DF8xEwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG20210829174212-01%255B1%255D.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>As I mentioned, I think I have oily-combination skin based on the online tests I have tried and of course based on my actual experience and feel. And it has been advised that if you have oily skin the best cleanser is a gel cleanser. I think this is the fact that draw me to the <a href="https://invol.co/cl63i13" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">COSRX Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser</a>. I searched for "gel cleanser" and it popped up, aside from of course being very popular. Also, another reason why I don't dare change cleansers because I'm not to familiar with other gel cleansers out there. I'm sure this is the one and only gel cleanser I have used. </div><div><br /></div><div>It's clear and you only need to use a small amount it will already lather. At first I wasn't a fan of the smell, but I got used to it and there are others who really love it. I now actually appreciate the smell.</div><div><br /></div><div>I know it says "Good Morning" but I would also use this as my facial wash at night. Actually, I wash my face mostly at night, there are times that I don't wash my face in the morning when I wake up. I'm trying to get into the rhythm of washing my face during my lunch break. I work from home and I don't have a solid morning routine yet, plus I get a feeling that I just cleaned my face, so, maybe it will be better if there's at least a 12-hour gap between the time I washed my face last night and the next day. But, that's just me. All, I'm saying is, using this very good cleanser should not limit you from only using it in the morning. </div><div><br /></div><div>This is also not limited for those with oily skin. It's actually recommended as well for those with sensitive and dry skin because of its amazing properties. Because of its low pH formula the natural oils of your skin will be intact and its cleansing botanical composition and mild acids will cleanse your skin but still keep it supple, refreshed and glowing. </div><div><br /></div><div>I don't put make up as much now because of just being at home, but I would also use this cleanser to remove make up as well and it's still very effective.</div><div><br /></div><div>If you are looking for a facial wash that you can trust that will do the job or you just want to refresh your skin care routine, try the <a href="https://invol.co/cl63i13" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">COSRX Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser</a>. I highly recommend it and I've been trusting this brand for years. Access to COSRX products are now a lot more easier than before when we needed to but them from online Korean stores that ship to the Philippines, now it's very much available in Lazada and you can trust that it's 100% legit!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>
<a href="https://invol.co/cl63k5c" rel="nofollow"><img src="https://img.involve.asia/rpss/campaigns_banners/1610939924-Eor7UR1fY7PRiMAotSjQLhmtYev6of7H.jpg" /></a>
<h4 style="text-align: left;"><br /></h4><h4 style="text-align: left;">And with that...</h4><div><br /></div><div>We are just in the first step in my skin care journey. For now, the goal is just to get beck into the routine and clear away the pimples (or is it already acne) that I have acquired the past year or so from wearing masks and being demotivated to continue the process. The next steps would be about the serums, liquids, essences, toner, etc. that I'm using. I don't think it would reach 10 steps like before because let's be realistic and I don't want to get too overwhelmed while I'm just starting (again) to be back into the habit. Like and follow the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TheJaggedBarn" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Facebook Page</a> to be updated once I've posted something new!</div><div><br /></div><div>I hope you will join me in my skincare journey and I hope your learned something new in this post. To God be the Glory! Thank you for spending time here in my blog!</div><div><br /></div><div>How about you? Let me know in the comments, or Messenger, your favorite facial wash or facial cleansers and why you love it! Have a great day! God bless you!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Laarni Lopezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17963618230970123632noreply@blogger.com0Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines14.6760413 121.0437003-31.268230815809986 50.7312003 60.620313415809989 -168.6437997tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6503992513423687579.post-752979662440857732018-11-04T23:00:00.000-05:002018-11-04T23:00:06.804-05:00Top Ten Jagged Movies<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div>
If you are stuck on what next movie to see or stream or download, here are some suggestions.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
A long time ago on Twitter, a friend has tagged me to post my 10 favorite movies, which can also be found <a href="https://twitter.com/i/moments/1055662697021206528" target="_blank">here</a>. However, without further explanation and reasoning. I thought of making this post to further shed some light on my picks. I have ordered these based on the year they were released. <div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My best friend when I was 11 years old kindled my love for romantic comedy films. And Julia Roberts is the queen of Romantic Comedy films. I love her movies and this is my favorite of them all. Primarily because she didn't get the guy she was pining for.. or didn't she? I love movie twists and turns because I always try to guess them. And when movies don't turn out the way most would expect it becomes instant favorites. I have a lot of romantic comedy films, but surely this is the best one for me.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Fight Club (1999)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I first watched this film with my college best friend and we were laughing our heads off at the very last bit where there was a cigarette burn. She taught me to watch until the very very end in all of the movies and it was always worth it, regardless of a cigarette burn or not. This is the least we could do for all those that worked hard for the movie whose face wasn't shown on the big screen. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I mentioned, I love twists and turns and this movie has it all! You would want to watch it over again and it will be on a whole new light now that you know the twist. Just don't forget the first rule of Fight Club. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Rush Hour 2 (2001)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, I love the whole Rush Hour Trilogy and especially all the BTS footage. Rush Hour 2 was my favorite among the three. I was laughing the most here and appreciate all the fight scenes! I am a Jackie Chan fan and I love comedies as well. This was the perfect blend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZzlrYZfBKhg/W9QHFtASQXI/AAAAAAAAswk/N0OsHH7Jx4MD0ANzL5zYNVMsF8NUXTlvgCLcBGAs/s1600/2004%2BThe%2BNotebook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="268" data-original-width="182" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZzlrYZfBKhg/W9QHFtASQXI/AAAAAAAAswk/N0OsHH7Jx4MD0ANzL5zYNVMsF8NUXTlvgCLcBGAs/s1600/2004%2BThe%2BNotebook.jpg" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. The Notebook (2004)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have to admit that I am a hopeless romantic. I love those grand gestures, never-ending love, and the Nicholas Sparks boys, which I all have yet to experience. This is the ultimate romantic movie of our time and if there's one sappy movie that should be on my list, this would be it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zsAucZlinmY/W9QHGhsY-EI/AAAAAAAAswo/r0NtNYw17LoAujwnz9TCyVlVw7e_pHtpACLcBGAs/s1600/2005%2BStar%2BWars%2BEpisode%2BIII%2BRevenge%2Bof%2Bthe%2BSith.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="277" data-original-width="182" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zsAucZlinmY/W9QHGhsY-EI/AAAAAAAAswo/r0NtNYw17LoAujwnz9TCyVlVw7e_pHtpACLcBGAs/s1600/2005%2BStar%2BWars%2BEpisode%2BIII%2BRevenge%2Bof%2Bthe%2BSith.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am a Star Wars fan and this is my favorite, so far. Actually, this is very much close to Episode 8, but Yoda's not there so, it's just second. Anakin's turn was so heartbreaking and epic that this is my favorite. This is the actual birth of Darth Vader and should be something that everyone needs to watch and see.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1TWaNejkjSw/W9QHGrxI6lI/AAAAAAAAsws/97njYpHNVuUt9aBr7M-D8vLY3CgK4iLzQCLcBGAs/s1600/2010%2BDonor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="275" data-original-width="183" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1TWaNejkjSw/W9QHGrxI6lI/AAAAAAAAsws/97njYpHNVuUt9aBr7M-D8vLY3CgK4iLzQCLcBGAs/s1600/2010%2BDonor.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. Donor (2010)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A friend of me recently asked what's my favorite local film. Aside from watching "Okay Ka Fairy Ko" movies as a child, I wasn't really exposed to watching local films. I fell in love with the art and took pride in what Filipino artists can produce because of the local stage theater scene and independent filmmaking industry through Cinemalaya. Donor was that one movie from Cinemalaya that I will never forget and would always be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the festival and even just talking about independent films. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Again, as a lover of twists and turns, this doesn't have much but the ending really made me jump at was at the edge of my seat and then a flood of emotions came through my whole being. That's how much impact those minutes made in my life. This makes this movie my favorite local film, I guess, of all time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PpgXFfU1qSs/W9QHG3RIXvI/AAAAAAAAsww/8-L94zSJXo4RZR0zZneGb8rlzzai12PEgCLcBGAs/s1600/2013%2BIt%2BTakes%2Ba%2BMan%2Band%2Ba%2BWoman.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="317" data-original-width="220" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PpgXFfU1qSs/W9QHG3RIXvI/AAAAAAAAsww/8-L94zSJXo4RZR0zZneGb8rlzzai12PEgCLcBGAs/s1600/2013%2BIt%2BTakes%2Ba%2BMan%2Band%2Ba%2BWoman.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7. It Takes a Man and a Woman (2013)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the third installment of the trilogy of Miggie and Laida and this is my favorite of all. I may not be a fan of happy endings but this one just gave a smile in my heart. I am a fan of John Lloyd Cruz and also a fan of Sarah Geronimo. Filipinos also have a good share of romantic comedy films and this one will make it in the history books. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ex11hbdZ79U/W9QHIMN3uPI/AAAAAAAAsw0/qsERdb6iy6glXLpy-8aA0fCm8oFsLfCRACLcBGAs/s1600/2013%2BSana%2BDati.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="274" data-original-width="184" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ex11hbdZ79U/W9QHIMN3uPI/AAAAAAAAsw0/qsERdb6iy6glXLpy-8aA0fCm8oFsLfCRACLcBGAs/s1600/2013%2BSana%2BDati.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8. Sana Dati (2013)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another one from Cinemalaya. Honestly, I am not a fan of the main actors, however, I liked them here. It was also more of the story and how everyone and everything came together. It's also not a typical love story and for me, it was a realistic good ending. This is the third installment of the Camera Series Trilogy of Jerrold Tarog.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

This revived my hope for Philippine Cinema and made me proud to be a Filipino. It may seem that most would find regret and shame, however, for me, it was more of a lesson to be learned and kept in heart and mind in looking out for the country's future. We really had a very colorful history and this was captured in this film. This is the first of a trilogy again from Jerrold Tarog and is so far my favorite. I have yet to see the third, but this one has set the bar really high.</div>

10. A Quiet Place (2018)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is my top pick for thrilling movies. I am not much a fan of Sci-Fi movies however, this one is much more of a thriller than dwelling into the Science Fiction aspect of the story that's why I have learned to appreciate it a lot. The acting was superb, the plot was engaging. My mom who was planning to sleep through the movie and even brought a blanket was all up and her eyes were glued to screen and she was screaming louder than me, and that says a lot for someone who would snore during fight scenes in Avengers movies. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know there are still a lot of movies out there and are still to come. I'm excited about what filmmakers have yet to offer with all the greats that came before them. My top 10 may change in the course of time, however, I would just plan to add 10 more or so on the list of the ones I adore. This made me realize how much I love unpredictable endings, romantic comedies, thrillers and that I have grown to appreciate the local movie scene. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What are your favorite movies? Do you see yours on this list? What other movies would you suggest me to see? Let me know in the comments! </div>

At the beginning of the year, I have tried preparing meals ahead and freezing them, then reheating in the microwave at the office for lunch. <br />
<br />
I have tried a number of recipes from <a href="https://onceamonthmeals.com/" target="_blank">Once a Month Meals</a> and I love that they specifically have instructions for plans of freezing the food. It gives me much confidence that I'm doing it right and that I won't spoil the food or it won't turn out bad after heating it in the microwave.<br />
<br />
I would cook different meals every weekend that would be good for 7 to 8 servings. Since there are only 5 working days in a week, the rest would carry over on the succeeding week, but then I would have a new batch in Monday. Once I have a good 5 serving excess, there would be no need for me to cook during the weekend prior. I usually schedule that free weekend during the first Sunday of the month since we are at the church almost the whole day because it's Communion Sunday. Thank God for the refrigerator at the office with a good freezer and that we can leave the food there over the weekend! And of course, thank God for the microwave!<br />
<br />
Here are some of the recipes I have tried:<br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Asparagus Salmon Bowl</li>
<li>Tuna and White Bean Pita</li>
<li>Chicken Margherita</li>
</ul>

Super easy, right? Since we didn't have a slow cooker, I used our old pressure cooker, adding the pineapple juice and water and cooked for about 2 hours. I also made 12 servings by doubling the ingredients. <br />
<br />
I tried not to choose this in my stock everyday.. Hahahahaha! This really was a favorite and I would definitely cook this again. I have actually stopped preparing freezer meals since April after a week long vacation (Noah's birthday and Holy Week), but I sure hope to get back on this soon and be able to cook this again!<br />
<br />
What's your favorite recipe? Have you tried freezer meals? Any recommendations? Let me know in your comments!<br />

Valentines' ain't over just because February is. Or at least, the celebration of love and life.<br />
<br />
I fully support the college theater scene since that's where I was really able to express my passion in theater in, and where most, if not all, creativity is being honed. <br />
<br />
Artistang Artlets is not really a stranger and I personally have friends who came from this theater group that has thrived in the professional theater scene. I had a giveaway in one of their productions about 4 years ago - "<a href="http://thejaggedbarn.blogspot.com/2013/09/north-diversion-road-giveaway.html">North Diversion Road</a>." <br />
<br />
So, without further ado, here's a new offering from the official theater guild of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Santo Tomas, <b>The Groundbreaking, The Heart-Pounding, The Explosive New Musical: BOMBA! (Yes, It's a Musical).</b><br />
<b><br /></b>

<br />
"Bawal ang pag-ibig."<br />
<br />
'Yan ang batas na umiiral sa Pilipinas sa taong 2117. Ang lahat ng tao'y takot magmahal dahil sa isang device na pumipigil sa kanilang umibig, maliban sa mga BomBayanis, isang grupo ng mga terorista na gustong maghasik ng pag-ibig sa mga nakakalimot nang makaramdam. Sa pamamagitan ng kanilang kakaibang pamamaraan sa pakikipagdigma, kailangan nilang gumawa ng isang perpektong bomba na magpapasabog sa kasalukuyang Presidente, para ipaalala sa kanya ang pwersa na mas malakas pa sa pinakamatinding bomba sa lahat: ang pag-ibig.<br />
<br />
Mula sa lumikha ng mga 'di malilimutang original musicals na 2BKontinyud at PWD: Puso With Disabilities, inihahandog ng Artistang Artlets ang <b>THE GROUNDBREAKING, THE HEART-POUNDING, THE EXPLOSIVE NEW MUSICAL: BOMBA! (YES, IT'S A MUSICAL.)

Noah loves the beach as much as I do, and maybe more when he grows up, and I'm so grateful that he doesn't freak out in the water and love the waves splashing his face. This is not the first time we went to the beach but this was the first time Noah flied out of Luzon. This is my 3rd time in Davao and I always see to it to visit the Samal Island and experience the beach. Secdea Beach Resort is the best Samal Island beach resort I have stayed in so far. Thanks to my officemate, April, who went there before I did and recommended the place. <!-- multiply:no_crosspost -->
<br />
<br />
<div>
Secdea Beach Resort is located in Samal, Davao, Philippines. From Davao City one has to go to the SaSa Wharf and take the RoRo to the Samal Island. Noah still gets to ride for free, but it's 10 pesos for me. We have arranged for pick up to get to the resort after we disembark the RoRo. It was about a 10-minute van ride from the wharf to the resort. </div>

I initially was able to contact them through <a href="https://www.facebook.com/secdeabeachresort/" target="_blank">Facebook</a> and closed deals through email. It was quite challenging for me to pick a room for us, so instead, I messaged them and asked for their recommended rooms for our group. The staff gave a number of options and included the price. It was really helpful in finally deciding to get the Sea Breeze Lodge for one night at their resort. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The Sea Breeze Lodge was really spacious for the 8 of us (including Noah). We needed to request for 4 extra beds, but that's alright. The lodge was big enough for even more. There are two bathrooms and two rooms. Too bad the WiFi signal didn't reach our place and there were no floor mats, it got messy when we had to go in even if we were wet. Other than that, I can stay there for days more! And Noah started to get comfortable and was checking out everyone's rooms!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Their food was scrumptious! We didn't get the dinner buffet, thinking it would cost a lot, but I spotted one whole roasted pig (lechon) being served in the buffet table! If I'd known, I would have said it was worth it! Although, our dinner was not bad a all. At least we get to order what we really wanted. Too bad there were a number of deserts that were out of season or unavailable that we needed to change our dessert orders a number of times. Although, we still ended up enjoying the dessert they managed to serve. <br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mommy enjoys dinner while Noah sleeps</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Our package was with buffet breakfast and even if Noah still wasn't much of an eater then, he enjoyed the area and we were playing "Noah Goes Down the Steps while Mommy Tries to Grab a Bite Before Noah Runs Off". I have mastered the game over time and was still able to enjoy breakfast. We were there early so, seats and serving was not a problem. Although, I don't think it would be even if we were a little late.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The best part of Secdea is their beach! This was the factor that made it the best Samal Resort I have been to so far. Others had too much sea weed, or the water was not clear, or it was too low tide, or the sand is not friendly at all that we needed to go to a different nearby "island". Noah and I enjoyed the little waves and sand was not too harsh on the feet. The sea water was not too salty too. Just right. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VBG8W1UYThQ/WJb0t1xqnXI/AAAAAAAAeHY/GwC6oyGedAwXt9iU7l0nerT67Ndu2D0WwCEw/s1600/Samal%2BBeach.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VBG8W1UYThQ/WJb0t1xqnXI/AAAAAAAAeHY/GwC6oyGedAwXt9iU7l0nerT67Ndu2D0WwCEw/s320/Samal%2BBeach.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And they also have a pool. I have rediscovered to joy of a swimming pool because of Noah. I almost forgot how to have fun in a confined water system until this little boy reminded me. They have the pool for all shapes and sizes and it would be impossible not to find somewhere you would like, so you better try them all. I got Noah to let go of me and enjoy in the baby pool! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Overall, I can't just let go of our stay in Secdea without blogging about it. I would definitely book another night in this place in case we would go back to Davao. This is the best Samal Island Beach Resort for me, so far.. Let me know what is yours in the comments!</div>

90's kids unite! There's no one in our generation who doesn't know who the "Master Rapper" is. Even if you're not a fan of rap or his original style of music, no one can deny that Francis Magalona has been an icon in the music industry of our time. And yes, his talent should not be confined to a particular generation because despite his early demise, we still recognize him and his influence transcends generations and genre. He is a legend.<br />
<br />
Among all the art forms that Francis M would inspire, I am most excited about how he would inspire the stage in the form of a musical theater production. I am looking forward to see how the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) would close their 48th theater season with a much anticipated original musical production.<br />
<br />

<br />
Here's a preview on the plot and amazing talent behind PETA's 3 Stars and a Sun:<br />
<br />
(Press Release)<br />
<br />
In time for the upcoming national elections, PETA experiments with the sci-fi subgenre dystopia to<br />
present a daring social commentary on Philippine politics and culture.<br />
<br />
“Though the narrative will not tackle the elections per se, we still hope that the ideas embodied in the<br />
play can be both a source of inspiration and reflection on the historical and current ethos of the Filipino as we prepare for another national election,” shares PETA Artistic Director, Maribel Legarda.<br />
<br />
‘3 Stars and a Sun’, brainchild of young writer Mixkaela Villalon and multi-awarded playwright Rody Vera, features a chilling plot: It is 2026, and the world has almost come to an end. Nuclear bombs have reduced countries to ashes and a huge portion of the Filipino population has been forced to enter The Stormdome, a fallout shelter made from durable steel. The Stormdome was closed down to protect its inhabitants from the ‘dangers of the outside world’ but also served as an icy prison for those who live in it.<br />
<br />
The story unfolds in 2096, 70 years thereafter. The musical opens with Myke Salomon’s fresh arrangement of Francis M’s ‘Mga Kababayan’, and swiftly exposes the harsh realities inside The Stormdome. The dome is deteriorating and resources are hard to come by. Nourishment has been reduced to nutrition-deprived food packs. Education is limited and any trace of Filipino history and identity has been erased. The only thing that has remained the same is the extreme divide between the rich and poor evidenced by the two clashing sectors, Lumino and Diliman.<br />
<br />
Due to the uninhabitable conditions in the Diliman scrapyard, a dissident group from the colony of<br />
scavengers known as Tropang Gising has threatened to spark a revolution and turn the system upside down. Vidame Inky, supreme leader of The Stormdome attempts to keep peace and order and deploys reprogrammed Protektanods to quash the Diliman rebels led by fiery leader Sol. In a desperate attempt to keep power within her reach, Vidame Inky grooms her son Chino to be the next leader of the Stormdome and puts him in-charge of mind-wiping workers.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile Vidame Inky’s daughter, Diane has refused to be part of her mother’s politics. Instead her attention has been drawn to finding answers about the disparity of her charmed life in Lumino City and the people of Diliman. Despite Vidame Inky’s effort to control all the information inside the Dome, Mang Okik, the oldest resident of Diliman Sector seems to have the answers to many of Diane’s questions.<br />
<br />
‘3 Stars and a Sun’ offers a dystopian look at what our future can come to if the problems of the present are left unresolved. The play aims to serve as a cautionary tale and a challenge to today’s youth to act together and act swiftly before it’s too late.<br />
<br />
The talented cast is headed by Nicco Manalo and Gold Villar as the fiery gang leader Sol. Paolo Valenciano and Gio Gahol alternate as the smug slacker Chino, joined by Justine Peña and Giannina Ocampo as Diane. Che Ramos-Cosio and Carla Guevara Laforteza portrays the rogue Vidame Inky while Bodjie Pascua and Raffy Tejada share the role of Mang Okik. They are joined by a strong slew of young theater talents, Anna Luna, Jet Barrun, John Moran, Nar Cabico, Lee Villoria, EJ Pepito, Anj Heruela, Gab Pangilinan, Jef Flores, Norbs Portales, Jason Barcial, Raflesia Bravo, Yesh Burce, Lance Busa, Roi Calilong, Gimbey dela Cruz, Nica Santiago, and Ian Segarra.<br />
<br />
‘3 Stars and a Sun’ has an equally gifted artistic team. The musical is headed by Nor Domingo as director, with exciting musical arrangements by Myke Salomon. It features production design by Gino Gonzales, lighting design by Shoko Matsumoto and Ian Torqueza, sound design by Teresa Barrozo and choreography by Delphine Buencamino.<br />
<br />
The musical opens February 4 at The PETA Theater Center and ends on Francis M’s 7th death anniversary on March 6. Shows are Tuesdays to Sundays (Tue-Fri 8PM, Sat-Sun 3PM and 8PM). For tickets contact PETA (02) 725-6244, petatheater.com or TicketWorld (02) 891-9999, ticketworld.com.ph.<br />
<br />

Mark your calendars and don't miss this theater production that celebrates great talent and strengthens the Filipino culture and individuality.<br />

2015 will never be forgotten. At least, April 10, 2015. <br />
<br />
A little step back in 2014, when I learned that I was pregnant. Every chance I got, I was praying for a normal, healthy baby boy. I don't have anything against girls, I would have loved her if she was a girl just the same. But to be honest, my heart was leaning a little towards having a baby boy. <br />
<br />
And 2015 couldn't have started any better, the doctor confirmed I was having a baby boy! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-61XQ2tAR8tw/VoabiPpQnaI/AAAAAAAAdk4/PkOTTqzeyjQ/s1600/IMG_20150111_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-61XQ2tAR8tw/VoabiPpQnaI/AAAAAAAAdk4/PkOTTqzeyjQ/s320/IMG_20150111_1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I was diagnosed to have Type 2 Diabetes since the start of 2014, I have been more conscious than ever with my health. I thank God that I didn't have "morning sickness" nor extreme cravings. I also didn't have what others said would be the signs of carrying a boy. Most thought it was a baby girl inside my tummy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PZBWZb3JvYQ/Voa2Bpo4dDI/AAAAAAAAdlI/nUtHtTAAswI/s1600/IMG_20150109_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PZBWZb3JvYQ/Voa2Bpo4dDI/AAAAAAAAdlI/nUtHtTAAswI/s320/IMG_20150109_1.png" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
The first due date was May 10, then it moved up to May 1 then, April 30. Because of my asthma and diabetes, it was highly recommended that I get a C section. And we can schedule it from April 25 to 3th. I have a brother who was born April 26, so we opted for that date instead. However, the Lord has a different plan for us.<br />
<br />
Due to my asthma and living 51 km from work, my doctor recommended that I work from home already. I was working from home since about March. <br />
<br />
April 9 is The Day of Valor in the Philippines and it's a holiday, so there's no work. It was a Thursday and I have filed to go on leave for the next day, Friday, April 10 to enjoy a long weekend. God's timing couldn't be more perfect.<br />
<br />
At about 1:00 AM, my contractions are starting to be more painful and more frequent. I was using an app to track the contractions and the obsessive compulsive in me was being particular and waiting for exactly 5 minute intervals for an hour. It was not until the morning, not sure what time, when my mom decided that we go to the hospital to have me checked. She knows my pain tolerance level and she can see it in my face that I was really in pain. <br />
<br />
In the hospital, they called up my OB, and she's in Batangas! That's about 150 km from Malolos. When she heard that I was having labor pains, she mentioned that it's too early and I'm not due until about 2 weeks more. I cannot agree more! But the pain was already excruciating! So, please do something about the pain and we can all see each other again in 2 weeks. The doctor checked and I'm only at 1 cm. <br />
<br />
The pain didn't stop, the contractions were still there and after a very long time, it seemed eternity for me. I was brought to the OR and we needed to prepare for CS. They said that I should be sleeping anytime soon because of something that they injected to my IV, but I wasn't falling asleep. I was entertaining the thought in my mind because I wanted to be relieved of the pain. <br />
<br />
The doctor checked again and I was at 4 cm but the baby was floating. I was lying in the OR sideways when I started to feel pooping sensations on top of the contractions. Then, I felt something go between my legs! The doctor checked and it was already crowning! The doctor shouted to everyone that this is not going to be CS and it will be a normal delivery! I can feel and hear the rush of everyone and I had another doctor coaching me on what I should do. Yes, I tried to study and practice breathing techniques, but no, I totally forgot about them! <br />
<br />
When we were all ready, when the sensation came again, I gave it my all for the push! At 3:30 PM, Noah Levi Lopez came into the world and he was greeted by applause! After I heard him cry, I already passed out. <br />
<br />
I thank God for a speedy recovery and for granting my prayer to have a healthy baby boy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It has been almost 9 months now and I still can't get enough of my little one. This is definitely one big change in my blogging. There would be more stories about being a mom and my baby boy! Having this blessing makes me look forward to 2016 even more! He will be turning 1 soon! Weeeee! <br />

<br />
<br />
I will forever be grateful to God for the blessings of 2015, specially my little sweetie, and I hope and pray that this 2016, I will get to know Him more and continually walk in His path and be constantly be filled with the joy of knowing Him and remaining in His presence. <br />

<div dir="ltr">
I am writing more than I used to about the Virgin LabFest this year compared with the past 2 years.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
Virgin LabFest has been staging virgin plays for a decade now and it does call for a celebration. Okay, the image of the cornucopia was not that festive enough for me. They may be trying to steer clear from the sexual connotations of the word "virgin", but come on! I think there's still a more festive way to depict this year's theme: The Harvest! A more festive image of the cornucopia perhaps would have sufficed.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This year's mourning hits very close to home. VLF8 was Mario O'Hara and Tony Espejo; VLF9 was Ama Quiambao. And as of this writing, I still can't really grasp the reality that a very dear talented friend passed away. Too fast, too soon. I remember how much he encourages me to write whenever I see a play, regardless if he's part of the production or not. So, here. Even with a heavy heart and way too many things going around. I'll write. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This year, me and my friends decided to find the common theme among the plays on the same set. There used to be a title for each set. I'm not sure why they stopped having that, but it was fun looking for the common theme on our own this year. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
We saw all 5 sets during the Premiere week, 8:00 PM show (except for Set D, I saw the 3:00 PM run).</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>SET A</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I forgot how we exactly coined it, but at least for me, the common theme is "SEPARATION".</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>ANONYMOUS </b>by Liza Magtoto; Directed by Audie Gemora</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
What a way to start the festival! The story is so high strung! There's no room to relax and breathe. Uleb Nieto was able to embody the tension that the plot brings. I miss Cris Pasturan's hair! I was really scared of him. I really love how this play made me want to know what would happen next, because I never knew. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>SA </b><b>ISANG</b><b> HINDI</b><b> NATATANGING</b><b> UMAGA</b>, <b>AT ANG</b><b> MGA</b><b> ULAP</b><b> AY</b><b> DAHAN-DAHAN</b><b> PUMAIBABAW</b><b> SA</b><b> NABUBULOK</b><b> NA</b><b> LUNGSOD </b>by Allan Lopez; Directed by Denisa Reyes</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I think this is the first time I've seen Jonathan Tadioan play a role that's subdued. Not too strong and overpowering. And I love it! I didn't really like this play that much at first, but when I get to think about the lines and how the story turned out, especially when my friends showed much appreciation on how much of an impact the set (movable doors and windows) played a vital role in the story telling, it turned out to be a play I learned to appreciate. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>SA PAGITAN NG DALAWANG KAHONG LIHAM</b> by Layeta Bucoy; Directed by Chris Millado</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This is a very very exhausting play. I have felt all the break ups I have gone through. You get to feel tired really fast and yes, that's how it is during break ups. Although, thank God, not all. If that was the goal of the play, they succeeded. However, it is very dangerous, since not all viewers would be able to appreciate that factor and I get to notice how much the actors pause after each line.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This was initially my favorite in this set because of the idea that the lines the actors are saying are from letters. I love it on books or novels and having it on stage was nice too.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I, of course, expected blood, one because it is Layeta and two because the stage and set was all white. This made the ending too predictable for me, and yes, that's less pogi points in my book.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>SET B</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
My friend, Yuyi, named the theme of this set as "LOST HOPE".</div>

<b>WENDY </b><b>WANTS</b><b> TO</b><b> BE</b><b> A</b><b> HOUSE WIFE </b>by Ricardo Novenario; Directed by Joshua Lim So</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Without further ado, this is my favorite play in the whole VLF10! I really understand what Wendy is saying the whole time. Perhaps, if I've seen this a month or two earlier, I would be bawling my eyes out. No, I'm not a house wife yet. Yes, yet! Ha!</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Anyway, Delphine and Topper were amazing! They were able to concoct the perfect blend to portray the roles. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
And I wanted to stand up and cheer when the stage hands started to deconstruct the stage and egress with <i>Mark</i> still on stage. Bravo, Mr. Joshua Lim So!</div>

<b>ANG NAGHIHINGALO </b>by Raymund Reyes; Directed by Dennis Marasigan</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I did not notice that there was something really wrong until Bong Cabrera went on stage. His high energy woke me up from what was seemingly an okay scene and made me realize that I was about to fall asleep if it went on for a minute more. <i>Guido</i> (Bong Cabrera),<i> Doreen</i> and <i>Linda</i> were the heroes of this play. The story really was about a disaster and thank God for their talents, the play wasn't. </div>
<div dir="ltr">

This may not be a favorite, but it's not a not-so-favorite neither. </div>

<div dir="ltr">
<b>THE MISSING PEACE </b>by Carlo Vergara; Directed by Marlon Rivera</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This is the disaster for me. Or maybe my expectations are just too high. The plot was too ambitious, I think, but maybe the execution made it seem that way. I fell asleep a little, and no, I didn't miss anything. The reveal or confession of <i>Candida</i> did not feel like a confession nor a reveal at all. I would have wanted to see the gore of how she died by the crown in the video. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>SET C</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
Again, Yuyi themed this set, "UNFINISHED BUSINESS".</div>

<b>MAPAGBIRONG </b><b>HAPLOS </b>by Kevin Tabora; Directed by Melvin Lee</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I am a fan of Melvin Lee's direction and this not an exception. This is also one of my favorites. I really like it when the story is not really a love story. Meann Espinosa was really amazing and so is Crispin Pineda. Their roles are demanding and other actors may have the tendency to overdo it, but they both were able to find the balance between their character and what is happening in the play.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>LAST 10 </b><b>MINUTES</b> by Joy Icayan; Directed by Tami Monsod</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Okay, this is also a favorite. It's like a deconstructed "20 Questions", waaay more mature and kinda reversed. Ha! Mayen Estanero and Nor Domingo were perfect. How I wish this was part of the plays that would be Revisited next year, because I would love to see it again... or maybe get a copy of the script at least. Ironically, the other plays in this set would be Revisited, except for this one. :(</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b></div>

<b>ANG GOLDFISH </b><b>NI</b><b> PROF</b><b>. </b><b>DIMAANDAL </b>by Eljay Deldoc; Directed by Roobak Valle</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
It was fun and I smelled that this would be Revisited next year, but personally, it did not made the cut for me. Honestly, this is my least favorite play. For me it was desperately trying to be subtle in not becoming preachy, but still ends up scolding. I'm not saying that fun is not good nor that the actors were bad. Maybe, this was just not my cup of tea and this year, all the plays are really great and thus, being last on the list doesn't necessarily equate to being terrible. Yes, this is just by preference.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>SET D</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This set was kidded to be The Sipat Lawin Ensemble and Friends Set just by looking at the artists involved in the plays. ;) But after seeing it, I themed this set, "CLOSURE".</div>

<div dir="ltr">
<b>SA LILIM </b>by Reya Laplana; Directed by Jenny Jamora</div>

The plot was predictable. Allison Segarra was really good. I wish I could see her perform more in the future. I find this play cute. </div>

<b>BAGO </b><b>ILIBING</b> by Maynard Manasala & UZ Eliserio; Directed by JK Anicoche</div>

<div dir="ltr">
This is such a Sipat Lawin Ensemble production. It was such a difficult set up, but really necessary. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
True to the theme of writing of Manasala and Eliserio, it was again incest, but I prefer this waaay more than the other one. All the actors were amazing and I really loved how Sarah Salazar and of course, Meila Romero-Payawal portrayed their roles. I really like how JK Anicoche would have the audience involved and every minute of the play, even during the set up, is part of the whole performance. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>BETANG </b>by J-mee Katanyag; Directed by Ed Lacson Jr.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
It was a creative and imaginative plot. Sherry Lara is so fabulous here!</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Since this is the last of the Virgin plays I was to see, I thought I wouldn't be shedding any tear. But <i>Betang</i> proved me wrong. During the run of the play, I was in my usual elation whenever I see stage plays, I thought it was nothing out of the ordinary goodness of a well written play. And then, when I thought it was a sad ending... <i>Betang</i> is about to exit the stage.. she coughs! Boom! <i>BETANG</i>! Waaaah! The tears could not help but pour out. That's why I slapped J-mee and if Ed and I were close, I would have done the same to him. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Soooo... if I was to choose which plays get to be Revisited next year, it would have been (in no particular order):</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
- Wendy Wants to be a Housewife<br />
- Last 10 Minutes<br />
- Betang</div>

<b>SET E: REVISITED</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I usually don't write about the Revisited plays, but I just wanted a few special mentions. Besides this is the Kiki Baento set anyway! :p</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Last year, I was not a fan of <i>Isang Daan</i> nor<i> Imbisibol</i> and everybody loved <i>Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady</i>. I still feel the same way for <i>Isang Daan</i>. <i>Imbisibol</i> is way better this year. Bernardo Bernardo and Ces Quesada really made it extra special this year. And I like Amando Quintana Jr. a lot better this time around. <i>Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady </i>still managed to capture my heart this year. I guess I will never get tired of this production. Kiki Baento, Skyzx Labastilla and Hans Eickstein were still great. And it was nice that Hans already knows how to wait for the screams to die down a little before he deliver his lines. :p I will miss this production and it is such a good thing for this to be the last play to see to cap off Virgin LabFest's decade of untried, untested, unstaged plays. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<i>This is also the last night I saw you... this is the last night when we smiled at each other.. you told me to wait and that we'd talk later.. However, later came with you in bed in the hospital and me trying my best to give you my best smile and support.. I am glad to have seen you later than that.. Even for one last time. </i></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
It has been a decade and with the Filipino talent still ablaze, the next decade of virgin plays is something worth looking forward to. I sure hope you were able to catch this year's festivities. If not, don't miss out and hope to see you next year!</div>

At least for me. And this is not a goodbye that I can turn into saying, "see you soon!" Because I know in my heart of hearts, we won't see each other again. And that's what's painful. And also, for that, I say sorry. I'm terribly sorry. I apologize for not being ready.. for not being brave enough. Although, maybe we were just meant to know each other now and everything would come to an end just like that. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Last time I saw you.. I smiled. You smiled too.. well, at least you tried.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I was crying almost the whole time on my way home because smiling at each other was something that we do effortlessly.. who am I kidding? We don't just smile. We laugh! And oh so loud! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I'm glad I told you that I love you. And I'll be forever grateful to the Lord that He allowed me to get to know you and that you made me feel loved. You are one great friend! </p>
<p dir="ltr">Many may not understand what we had because it was not that evident, and maybe for others, not that significant.. but you made a mark in my heart, in my life.. I will never be the same. The world will never be the same. </p>
<p dir="ltr">I can only imagine how much loss other people who held a bigger piece of you feel.. because this tiny crumb I hold is so terribly painful. </p>
<p dir="ltr">The tears are still automatic, and I think I'm still in denial.. because I can still smile.. I can still laugh.. but when the tears turn on. I can't seem to pull the plug. What will happen when this sinks in? How long will it take for the tears to run out? Or worse, will it even flow? </p>
<p dir="ltr">Many may say I'm such a drama queen.. well, I don't care.. I never did. </p>
<p dir="ltr">I hope the last few smiles we shared was enough to say all these.. and those that I can't put into words. Because "goodbye" is never enough. </p>

<div dir="ltr">
It's that time of the year once again when Philippine theater gives birth to untried, untested, unstaged plays that keep this industry alive and continue to give us a promise of a bright future! <br>
<br></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>WHAT: Virgin LabFest 2014 or VLF 10</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br>
On its 10th year, Writer's Bloc Inc. has selected 12 one act plays to be staged for the very first time. They will also re-stage 3 of the most loved plays from last year (Virgin LabFest 9 Revisited Set E). There will also be 3 staged readings and the showcase or culminating activity of the Virgin LabFest 8 Writing Fellowship Program. Plus, "Fragments" of some plays that would be performed randomly, not necessarily on stage. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br>
I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be able to see these plays for almost 5 years now! And it was only through His grace that I was able to be part of last year's VLF 7 Writing Fellowship Program's showcase. Glory to God! <br>

Here are the sets and plays that made it to the cut!<br>

The man appears at a time the woman is in a relationship. He wants to extort some money from the woman or else he will destroy her by showing a video of their sexual act. As they consume each other’s box of letters, the history of their love affair flashes back with the intermittent singing of Julie Andrew’s “Time is My Friend.” But even as they traverse the romantic rope tying their two boxes of letters, they eventually learn that in matters of the heart, perhaps love is never enough.</em></div>

Two Filipino friends, Benjie and Manuel, both illegal workers in Japan, gather at the house of their Filipina friend, Manang Linda, to collect the letters their families send to fictional names they created to hide their true identities. At the middle of the happy lunch, Rodel, another young Filipino illegal worker, barges in, declaring he had just killed a man who threatened to report him to the police. His friends suggest that he moves deeper underground by moving to another prefecture, finding a new day job, cutting ties with his family and friends, keeping a low profile, changing his name, and staying hidden for good. Would Rodel choose to stay invisible not only to the police but also to his family and friends to keep his freedom and continue working for his family’s sake?</em></div>

Bituin couldn’t care less, but Ting wants to preserve the legacy of his great-grandfather. My favorite season of the year also marks the end of another glorious theater season and the start of theater workshops in most of the theater companies here in the Philippines. And before we dive into the bliss that is summer, the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) gave us an appetizer of what is to come in their 47th theater season.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yzyJHnfRtdM/U0mqLxIVteI/AAAAAAAAVjE/2fZSinmRwJU/s1600/20140405_144138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yzyJHnfRtdM/U0mqLxIVteI/AAAAAAAAVjE/2fZSinmRwJU/s1600/20140405_144138.jpg" height="191" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
<b><i>PETA Productions and Performances</i></b><br />
<br />
Personally, it is good to know that PETA is going to have a re-run of "<a href="http://thejaggedbarn.blogspot.com/2014/01/peta-ends-46th-theater-season-with-very.html" target="_blank"><b><i>Rak of Aegis</i></b></a>" to open season 47! This gives us another chance to witness the theatrical talents of the power couple, Isay Alvarez and Robert Sena, and see and hear the Aegis anthems on stage. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T_8Ug_4TTFc/U0mqbSwPzeI/AAAAAAAAVjM/hNWP2zK5UrY/s1600/20140405_144220.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T_8Ug_4TTFc/U0mqbSwPzeI/AAAAAAAAVjM/hNWP2zK5UrY/s1600/20140405_144220.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
PETA has been known for producing original Filipino theater productions, and true to their calling, the next generation of artists will take stage this season in the new musical, or should I say "top flippin' Balagtasan Battle,"<b><i>Florante at Laura: Remastered</i></b>. I can't help but ask the writer, Anj Heruela, about the production's seeming resemblance to <i style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="http://thejaggedbarn.blogspot.com/2011/09/peta-stages-rap-musical.html" target="_blank">William</a></i>. As she clarified, "William" is about understanding Shakespeare and relating his works to the characters' lives, while this new production would tell us how the present generation would learn from Balagtas and utilize this knowledge in today's means of poetry or song, which is FlipTop battles and/or hip-hop. The creative process in mounting this production is so exciting and the finish product is just the tip of the iceberg that we would all be glad to bump into.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tKw14e_-3F4/U0mq3rFhVZI/AAAAAAAAVjU/gBi9Gx_wBCk/s1600/20140405_150428.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tKw14e_-3F4/U0mq3rFhVZI/AAAAAAAAVjU/gBi9Gx_wBCk/s1600/20140405_150428.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Another new production would be "<i style="font-weight: bold;">Cherry Orchard</i><u>,</u>"which is adapted by Rody Vera from Anton Chekhov and would be directed by Loy Arcenas. This would be a period production set in 1960s. I would love to know more about this production soon!<br />
<br />
PETA would still be bringing theater closer to everyone by having our all time favorite productions on tour: <i style="font-weight: bold;">William, Mga Kuwento Ni Lola Basyang </i>and <b><i>Batang Rizal.</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
<b><i>International Partnerships</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
PETA doesn't only contribute to the Philippine Theater Industry, but they also enable us Filipinos in having a taste of the international theater scene with their international partnerships. This season, we don't need to go out of the country just to be updated on what is happening on stage in different parts of the world.<br />
<br />
I am looking forward to see the non verbal twin-bill production that celebrates the Philippine-Japan Friendship Month: PETA's <i style="font-weight: bold;">Strong Boy, Deaf Boy and a Girl in a Abaya</i> and Dora Theater's <i style="font-weight: bold;">Ayanasu</i>. And the child in me is anticipating to see Janne Raudaskoski and Sanni Rannila's <i style="font-weight: bold;">Wally Watthead and his Lost Glow</i>. They really prepared the theater season to cater to audiences of all ages!<br />
<br />
Also part of the international productions are Daniel Bye's <i style="font-weight: bold;">Price of Everything </i>and James Cousins' <i style="font-weight: bold;">There We Have Been</i>.<br />
<br />
For more details about these International Productions you may contact Production Manager Eko Baquial at <a href="mailto:ekobaquial@me.com" target="_blank">ekobaquial@me.com</a> or +63 906 584 0471.<br />

This not-so-personal blog will start to be a little more personal.. because I think it can really be more personal. Though, not as personal as my previous blog was. I don't think I could ever go back to that.<br />
<br />
<br />
I love Kurt Hugo Schneider and have been addicted to him for about a year now. Okay, not as much as last summer, but I still love his videos and what he does. Well, everything that he does and shares with the world, that is.<br />

<br />
And I'm glad I watched this Love Medley Video that I'm blogging about. It runs for about 3 minutes. I know the bridal walk is not that long.. but just in case. This would be the perfect one! Ha! Well, I can have it edited to a more fitting length and a more conservative list of songs.. ;)<br />

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Whenever February rolls in and I happen to be single, I steer clear from all the lovey dovey stuff and distract myself with the Art Month. However, this time around, despite being single, I'll take the plunge and write something personal and deals with the matters of the heart.<br />
<br />
My friend who is part of Sipat Lawin Ensemble's "LOVE: This is Not Yet a Musical The Second Time Around" or LoveNot asked me these three questions that I opt to answer in this blog entry instead.<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>What is love?</li>
<li>What is NOT love? (If #1 is love what is NOT?)</li>
<li>What's your current state in love? (or something like that.. ha!)</li>
</ol>
So, what is love? That IS the question! We are surrounded with multiple and various definition. Although, I believe that each one of us personally has one definition of love that they hold on to or at least believe in. For almost 30 years of existence, I have come up with my own personal definition. Love, for me, is the force, the reason, that makes you decide, choose and act selflessly and makes you feel that what you've decided or chosen or did, too good, to be almost selfish. So, acting selflessly, without that good feeling, be it happiness or fulfilment or what have you, could be born out of obligation or any other reason, but not love.. So, I guess, on to the next question.<br />
<br />
What is NOT love? PETA's ArtZone got it right. Love does not hurt. Thus, with this question, keeping my definition of love in mind, it is not love when you decide, choose or do something that you know, or obviously, would cause another person hurt, physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically and in any other way possible. Yes, we are not perfect and we still make mistakes, but we don't really consciously do that, unless, you're evil. So, there are times that we still say sorry, because we didn't think or know that what we are deciding, choosing or doing would hurt the person we love. So, Erich Segal, we can say sorry. I guess, once you "forget" that person you say or think you love, and start deciding, choosing and acting, without that person in mind, naaaahh.. that's not love, my friend. Andrew Lloyd Webber got it right when he asked that you, "Think of Me."<br />
<br />
Now, to the third question. The toughest one for me to answer, more so, write. Stephen Chbosky was correct all along. "We accept the love we think we deserve." I didn't really believe it the first time. I was in denial for sometime, and then, when you start loving and knowing who you really are, you would then know, that yeah, we accept the love we think we deserve. Or in other words, we say no to those that we don't deserve. Being around the block for almost three decades now, have taught me a whole lot. I'm just grateful that I get to survive and learn. So, what's my current state in love? I already know what I want and what I need. Some may say that at my age I don't have the right to be choosy, but I know the love that I deserve, and I won't settle for anything less. I also know the love that I'm capable of giving. I know how far I can go and with the right person, I can give as much and most probably even more. I can say that I'm ready to fall in love again, with the right person that is. With all the things I've been through, I already know what I want, what I deserve and how much love I can give. So, no more guessing, no more instability, because, now, I know. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not in any way in a hurry. Hey, I'm not really what you can say looking. I just want it to come naturally. I know what I want and second rate just won't settle it. Besides, we're talking about the rest of my life here. I already had my share of "right now's" or "for now's", so, yeah. I like where I am right now in terms of love, even if I'm single, because I know how to love myself and I know how to love others.<br />
<br />
Whew! Done answering the questions unscathed. Because if there's one other thing falling in love and loving taught me, it doesn't kill us, it makes us.. yeah, stronger.<br />

<!-- multiply:no_crosspost -->
The first month of 2014 is already up and the theater season is about to end. However, there are a couple of things I'm looking forward to before it ends, and one of them is Philippine Educational Theater Association's (PETA) staging of "Rak of Aegis"!<br />
<br />
Sounds familiar? Yes, I love that PETA continues to stage original Filipino musicals instead of restaging foreign musicals. It's inspiring and innovative and makes you more proud of Philippine Theater. It is such an indication that the industry is alive and thriving.<br />
<br />
And who is not familiar with the Filipino band, Aegis? They brought us Pinoy Rock classics such as "Luha", "Halik" and "Basang Basa sa Ulan". That's why when I first heard about this, I was so excited. And now, here it is within our grasp!<br />
<br />
I'm also excited to see Aicelle Santos back on the stage. As I have first seen her in "<a href="http://thejaggedbarn.blogspot.com/2013/01/katy-musical.html" target="_blank">Katy</a>" and I was so enthralled by her potential in pursuing a career in musical theater, it is nice to see her perform again! And with nonetheless Seña couple and my Stella Adler partner in crime, Joan Bugcat! (I'm sooo proud of you, gurl!)<br />
<br />
Too bad I was still under the weather during the Press Launch, but I sure would not miss this! You shouldn't too! Looking for "wicked" Filipino vocals and performing talent? Head over to PETA during these dates and times:<br />
<br />
January 31 to March 9, 2014 at The PETA Theater Center located at No.5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City. Shows are Fridays-Sundays, Friday and Saturday shows at 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM and Sundays at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, except Feb 23 with shows at 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM and Mar 2 at 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM.<br />
<br />
Tickets are now available via <a href="http://www.ticketworld.com.ph/" target="_blank">www.ticketworld.com.ph</a>, 891-9999. For more information contact PETA at 725-6244 or 0917-5765400, petatheater@gmail.com or visit <a href="http://www.petatheater.com/" target="_blank">www.petatheater.com</a>.
<br />
<br />
Ciao for now!<br />

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<a href="http://palamutishop.com/" target="_blank">Palamuti by PJ Valenciano</a> has come a long way since 2009 when I first got to know this creative and artistic side of my surfer friend. <br />
<br />
I have blogged about <a href="http://palamutishop.com/" target="_blank">Palamuti</a> during its early days <a href="http://thejaggedbarn.blogspot.com/2009/11/ear-decor-by-pj-valenciano.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://thejaggedbarn.blogspot.com/2009/12/from-santa-2009-pj-valencianos-palamuti.html" target="_blank">here</a>. And now, they're going international, baby! Woohoo! I'm so proud and happy for PJ. <br />
<br />
And what a way to give back to her jagged customers but have a giveaway to all you lucky ladies! Alright, this is not just limited to us girls, with the Christmas season just a sniff away, it wouldn't hurt for guys to give your special lady one of PJ's wonderful creations!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nRCgxEoN9j0/UnLfdjyWdgI/AAAAAAAAVe4/KxCeXxOChqg/s1600/ME-Magenta-c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nRCgxEoN9j0/UnLfdjyWdgI/AAAAAAAAVe4/KxCeXxOChqg/s320/ME-Magenta-c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
TWO lucky jagged readers would be getting <a href="http://palamutishop.com/" target="_blank">Palamuti</a>'s best seller: The <b>Hiraya Scarf Necklace Mother of Pearl Shells</b>! <br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Hiraya means “the fruit of hopes, dreams, aspirations, imagination, or wishes". They gave the scarf a new twist by embellishing them with beads, shells, crystals and seed beads. Depending on their length, you can wear them in several ways; from a scarf, to a belt and into a cover-up.</blockquote>
Here are a couple of ideas on how you can wear a Hiraya Scarf Necklace:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pn3h8PSqc_g/UnLutEy4nsI/AAAAAAAAVfI/V0zKo2gcvCo/s1600/How_To_Wear_Scarf_Necklace_V1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pn3h8PSqc_g/UnLutEy4nsI/AAAAAAAAVfI/V0zKo2gcvCo/s320/How_To_Wear_Scarf_Necklace_V1.jpg" width="235" /></a></div>
<br />
These necklace scarves are available from 2 - 3 yards and are made of the following materials:<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Mother of Pearl Shells </li>
<li>Seed Beads </li>
<li>Fresh Water Pearls </li>
<li>Acrylic Crystals </li>
<li>Chiffon for the Scarf </li>
</ul>
Here's a few more sweet details about the Hiraya Scarf Necklaces:<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
The embellished portion are all hand stitched by their women beaders. Only 3 pieces are made per day and to accommodate the demand, we tap the mothers we trained from one of the urban poor communities in Metro Manila for production. The more orders they get, the more projects they assign to their chosen community. These scarves are now available in the Philippines, US, Middle East and Hong Kong. But if you're from a different country, they do accommodate purchases from other countries via their US office in Lawndale, California.
</blockquote>
The possibilities are endless on how you would strut with the Hiraya Scarf Necklaces. Here's a couple more ideas to trigger the fashionista inside you.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HRnzhseQo1U/UnLzXWdFJtI/AAAAAAAAVfU/nP9DYHUhDoY/s1600/How_To_Wear_Scarf_Necklace_V2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HRnzhseQo1U/UnLzXWdFJtI/AAAAAAAAVfU/nP9DYHUhDoY/s320/How_To_Wear_Scarf_Necklace_V2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

One of the events I look forward to every year is the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF). I first got to know of this Book Fair back in 1998, when my brother was a contestant in a spelling bee that was held during the fair. And boy was I overwhelmed with all the books within my reach! <strike>It was like Disneyland! </strike>(Well, I haven't been there yet, so let's make it realistic..) It was like SM Toy Land! (Yes, that's much more appropriate for my age/generation.)<br />
<br />
MIBF happens every September, usually near and even sometimes during my birthday, so, I most of the time get the books that I want. Then, I grow up and asking for money from my parents is no longer happening, so, I gotta save up for this event. To buy books, entrance is about Php 20.00 (used to be Php 2.00!). And then, I would allocate all my year's book budget to be spent during this time. Until it evolved to be during the month.<br />
<br />
Leading bookstores would be on sale around the same time, outside the fair, that is. National Bookstore and Powerbooks have theirs before the event. It used to be in Megamall's Megatrade Halls, but they moved it to Mall of Asia's SMX Convention Center. So, I can't really go there everyday. So, to be able to avail of discounts outside the fair I have made the vow to buy brand new books during the month of the MIBF only. <br />
<br />
And without much further ado, here's my book haul for during the month (MIBF 2013)!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EhwuOMHaqM8/UkPMe-16nSI/AAAAAAAAVdU/_KhNBa9rofY/s1600/Photo+9-26-13,+12+54+31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EhwuOMHaqM8/UkPMe-16nSI/AAAAAAAAVdU/_KhNBa9rofY/s320/Photo+9-26-13,+12+54+31.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
That's a total of 33 books! Weeeeee! 10 were bought during the actual MIBF, went there on its first day. There rest were during bookstore sale before/after the MIBF. The books during the MIBF were 20% off the original price and the others I got as much as 93% off the original price! I no longer know the total amount I've spent, but yeah, this should be well enough until next year! Ha!<br />
<br />
I also got the Fully Booked discount card already. Just in case I slipped.. Chos! I thought Allegiant would have been out by this time already, then, it was moved to October. The discount card would be handy! ;) Yes, that's the last brand new book I'll get! Unless of course another warehouse sale happens. :p <br />
<br />
Here are some stuff about this haul:<br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>7 books are from Mary Janice Davidson's Undead series. I'm missing only #1 and #2.</li>
<li>Now completed Kelly Armstrong's Darkest Powers Trilogy.</li>
<li>Completed my initial list of Nalini Singh books to acquire. And yes, the list is now updated.</li>
<li>About 9 books are stand-alone novels. About, because I'm not sure if I counted those in a series but can be read as stand-alone. This is a feat because I'm a series junkie.</li>
<li>I've already read 3 of the books there and currently reading 1. Yes, there's no predicting on what's the next book I'll be reading.</li>
</ul>
<div>
I'm not an expert in knowing the genre of a book, so I rely on what Goodreads tell me. I don't really mind but it's nice to know what type of books I'm into. So, for this haul, here are the numbers:</div>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>25 Fantasy </li>
<li>15 Young Adult</li>
<li>15 Paranormal</li>
<li>14 Romance</li>
<li>5 Contemporary</li>
<li>4 Children's</li>
<li>4 Science Fiction</li>
<li>4 Historical Fiction</li>
<li>3 Urban Fantasy, Adult Fiction, Mystery</li>
<li>2 Fairy Tales, Dystopia</li>
</ul>
<div>
So, that's it for this year's rundown of my MIBF 2013 haul.. Yes, I can't wait for next year! </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Did you go to this year's book fair? What did you get? Any recommendations on my next read? Comment away!</div>

Artistang Artlets, the official theater guild of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Sto. Tomas is now on its 33rd season! This season's Major Production is "North Diversion Road", written by Palanca and FAMAS awardee Tony Perez. <br />

<br />
<br />
This is a play that would deal with the different types of love stories. Set in the North Luzon Expressway, with all the vehicles passing by, you can't help but wonder what's happening behind the wheel. This has already been staged in the past and was even turned into a film with John Arcillas and Irma Adlawan. "The North Diversion Road" will take us to a journey that would not make us fall asleep on our seats.<br />
<br />
Artistang Artlets' staging would be directed by Ma. Kristina Magno and produced by Christine Emano. This will be staged at the Tan Yan Kee Auditorium, Tan Yan Kee Building, University of Sto. Tomas on September 25, 26 and 27, 2013 (10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM).<br />
<br />
For further questions and concerns, contact Cymon Denise Mercado at 0927-329-6953 or visit Artistang Artlets' Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ArtistangArtletsUST.<br />
<br />
And to make this ride more exciting, follow me on <a href="http://www.twitter.com/TheJaggedBarn" target="_blank">twitter</a> and get a chance to win 2 tickets to see "North Diversion Road" on September 27th! You can choose on which time slot you would be available. Make sure to use the rafflecopter below for your entry to count. There are also other ways to increase your chances of winning.. very easy! <br />
<br />
As fast as the North Luzon Expressway in good days, I will generate the winner on September 26, to give us enough time to inform Artistang Artlets of the time you'd be seeing the play on the 27th. So, hurry! <br />

Dulaang UP started to stage "The Duchess of Malfi"/"Ang Dukesa ng Malfi" last September 11. <br />
<br />
I am one of those who doesn't have any inkling on how the story will go and what it's really about, aside from that there's a duchess. I relied a lot on Dulaang UP's storytelling. However, I wasn't able to resist the urge to check the play bill during the intermission, to make sure I was still understanding things correctly, and how far away are we from the end. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
Adriana Agcaoili was our duchess. I was curious on how Banaue Miclat would take on the role. We saw the very first run without considering if it would be in English or in Filipino. What we saw was in English.<br />
<br />
Richard Cunanan was our "Bosola" and he's hilarious and very organic! It was evident that he took us in a journey that would be different from how his alternates (Neil Ryan Sese and George de Jesus III) would have. I enjoyed his driving nonetheless.<br />
<br />
Jacques Borlaza's portrayal of "Ferdinand" is very intense! It was always at the peak of emotions. It would have been more exciting if we were in a roller coaster with peaks and valleys.<br />
<br />
Menggie Cobarrubias as the Cardinal was so relaxed, almost lax, almost carefree, almost apathetic. <br />
<br />
Now, Carlo Tarobal is someone to watch out for. He has all the potential in making a good "Antonio". I sure hope it didn't remain to be just a potential.<br />
<br />
My favorite member of the cast would be Dolly de Leon "Cariola". I was able to feel all her emotions. She exuded the appropriate status of her role. Her every movement and action has meaning and reason. Her character as the faithful and loving servant to the duchess was complete and whole. <br />
<br />
One of the most confusing parts of this production is its time or period. The lines would dictate that it's during the present. However, the clothes/costume would say otherwise. Okay, so. it's a different place and maybe they dress different there, but places like Milan, Paris, those are real and we know and no, they don't dress that way there. Then, their manner of speaking, the words they use, it's not of 2013. So, it really makes me wonder and most of the time forget, that yeah, this is supposed to be set in the present. Bringing out an iPhone was not a good reminder.<br />
<br />
I like the set and its versatility and how it helps in the transformation of each setting. <br />
<br />
So, overall, I'm not much of a fan of this production. However, Banaue Miclat's and George de Jesus III's portrayals is making me curious. Just not curious enough to purchase tickets. I think they'll be brilliant though.<br />
<br />

Cinemalaya's "Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros" will be transformed to a rock musical and their "Patikim Ng Shlight" (an exclusive kick-off event to launch...) made us more excited to see it staged.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Last August 23, Friday at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute, our theater taste buds were tickled to a mini preview/read through of MAXIE THE MUSICALE: Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We have originally fallen in love with Maxie when we first get to know him in the independent screen. Getting a glimpse of how Nicolas Pichay transformed Maxie's story to be seen in live theater, rekindled my affection for Maxie's story. And the music (by William Elvin Manzano, JJ Pimpinio and Janine Santos) and lyrics (by Nicolas Pichay) of the songs presented were the best appetizers to make us yearning for more! This early, I already know that I'd be laughing <b>and</b> crying throughout the show! I simply can't wait to see this! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I can't wait for November 9 to come, when the show opens at the PETA Theater Center. It will only run until December 8, 2013. And with the buzz it's creating this early, we should start getting our tickets!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Tickets are already available in SM Tickets and TicketWorld or you can buy directly from show buyers. Like their page at www.facebook.com/MaxieTheMusicale to get more details on how to avail tickets through the show buyers. It may be a little cheaper when you do so.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Do not miss this fun and exciting musical! See you at the theater! </div>

QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES - On a bare stage with just the skeletal structure of the set and a makeshift video screen, the full run of PAMANA was shown to the public after two months of preparation.<br />

<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
Friends and members of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF), and Indie.go media attended the PAMANA critics' night held August 14 at White Space in Makati.</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
Present were renowned musical composer Ryan Cayabyab, Father Manoling Francisco, S.J., and daughter of Ninoy and Cory Aquino, president sister Ballsy Aquino-Cruz. They stayed not only to watch the preview but also to give their thoughts and suggestions to beef up the production in time for its opening gala on August 21, 8pm at the Meralco Theater.</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
"It's beautiful," Ballsy said. "I would give it a ten out of ten."</div>

<div class="p1">
PAMANA is the country's first docu-musical, a form that mixes video footages of the People Power, sound bytes of Ninoy and Cory Aquino, set to music by Cayabyab and Father Fransisco, with a powerful mix of performers that brought the stage to life.</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
The production lasted for about an hour and a half, showing scenes from the present day interspersed with flashbacks from the 70s up to the early 2000s. Weaving these scenes together were a mix of actors from PETA and other theater groups, led by Malou de Guzman, Jett Pangan, Bodjie Pascua, and Kakki Teodoro. The singing group Viva Voce was also part of the ensemble, lending the musical numbers a powerful voice.</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
The play's music was well-loved by its first public audience. Some were brought to tears as they recalled the 80s with a Jim Paredes original, "Handog ng Pilipino Sa Mundo."</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
The music is crafted from the stanzas written by playwright Rody Vera.</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
"Rody's words when read aloud already help create the shape of the melody," Cayabyab said. "The only challenge left is how to make the song help the story move forward while creating the right atmosphere and emotion needed in the scene."</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
Cayabyab expressed how pleased he was with how musical director Vincent De Jesus worked the music into the play.</div>
<div class="p1">

<div class="p1">
"I wouldn't change [the music]," Cayabyab said. "I like it the way it is."</div>

<div class="p1">
PAMANA looks back at the last thirty years through the eyes of three generations within a family, ordinary people who became part of those times - the enlightened character of Lola Azon who witnessed EDSA I, the cynical character of Edgar who witnessed a government worsened by prevailing poverty and corruption through the years, and hopeful character of Trina hoping to witness the coming of a better tomorrow.</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
"We will try our best to be both - for the show to be enjoyable and entertaining while being content-heavy," said Maribel Legarda, the stage director.</div>
<div class="p1">

"It brought the message home," said Kiko, a grandson of Cory. "The ending was subtle, and that’s how Lola Cory was."</div>
<div class="p1">

<div class="p1">
After a successful preview and only a few days left before the opening, PAMANA promises to be a performance that will not only help generation remember but also prepare them to move for the future.</div>

PAMANA is co-presented by PLDT and is made possible through the support of Meralco, One Meralco Foundation, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, Philex Mining Corporation and Directories Philippines.</div>
