since regine velasquez is such a icon in the Philippine music industry, a lot of artists would try and sing her song. unfortunately there is only one song bird in asia, and if you just simply try to be her you would always fall short. but this version is such a pleasant surprise.
check out this lea salonga album: Songs from Home.
This album is actually a collection of her versions of popular and original Pilipino music. but this medley, her version of Regine Velasquez songs was the one that stand out the most for me. the songs were sang amazingly beautiful, but less the belting. and one would think that that is simply not possible.
i have heard these songs a thousand times before. in regine's movies, mtv's, on the radio, on her performances, so, these songs are not really new to me. but when i heard this version of lea salonga... the world stops, i have goosebumps all over me and i am always almost in tears! yes, even after listening to it for more than 5 times i would still get the same feeling.
so, here's a sample. thanks to alliteration for uploading this one.
wow! such an artist, lea salonga is..
there are a lot of other pleasantly surprising versions of lea salonga in Songs from Home. Here are my top 5 favorites:
even if i am a lea salonga fan, i haven't seen her perform live, her mere presence was already too much for me when we were sitting close to her while watching The Three Penny Opera and every time i remember that, i am filled with such emotions! and at that time all i heard her singing was the national anthem!
but this is about to change (not the flood of emotions, though)! this year, Cats is in Manila! and Lea Salonga would be playing the role of Grizabella! and we already got our tickets! i'm sooo excited! even if it's a number of months away.. weeeeee! Ü
Cats: Now and Forever will be staged at the CCP Main Theater from July 24 to August 8, 2010.

- Regine Velasquez / Ogie Alcasid Medley - obviously, this is my favorite.
- Basil Valdez Medley - it has Ngayon, Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo, Kastilyong Buhangin, Paano Ba ang Mangarap, Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan
- Laki Sa Layaw (Jeproks) - can you imagine this? Lea Salonga singing a rock song?!? wow!
- Waray Waray / Galawgaw - i think this is sooo cute. and she really doesn't have a problem shifting accents.
- Isang Linggong Pag Ibig - the Lea Salonga version makes this song a little more sophisticated. Ü
